101 DALMATIANS MUSICAL TOUR
It has just been announced that a touring musical version of 101 Dalmatians is due to hit the road next summer. It is based on the production that played at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in the summer of 2022, which was based on Dodie Smith's famous novel which was featured in several Disney films. 101 Dalmatians The Musical has been reimagined by Zinnie Harris, featuring music and lyrics from actor, writer, and composer Douglas Hodge, with a script by Johnny McKnight
It tells the story of evil fashionista Cruella de Vil who hatches a plan to capture all the Dalmatian puppies in town for her extravagant new fur coat, causing trouble to loom for parents Pongo and Perdi, along with their large litter of young pups. This tale of canine adventure is vividly portrayed on stage, featuring breathtaking puppetry, dazzling choreography, cleverly crafted songs, and adorable puppies!
The production will open in Wimbledon on 22nd June 2024 with Coronation Street and Waterloo Road star Kym Marsh playing Cruella at New Wimbledon,Birmingham, Manchester, Belfast, Newcastle, Southend, Dublin, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Woking, Cardiff, Southampton, Aberdeen and York with Faye Tozer from Steps playing the role at Norwich, Canterbury, Leicester and Wolverhampton.and West End stat Kerry Ellis on the final dates t Oxford and Brighton, They will be joined by Charles Brunton (Casper), Victoria Compson-Bradford (swing), Ross Dorrington (ensemble), Benjamin Durham (ensemble), Jessie Elland (Danielle), Benedict Hastings (ensemble), Danny Hendrix (Jasper), Linford Johnson (Pongo), Lottie Johnson (ensemble), Rachel Lea-Gray (ensemble), Tom Norman (ensemble), Hugo Rolland (ensemble), Lindo Shinda (ensemble), Eugene Shire (swing), Samuel Thomas (Tom), Emma Thornett (Perdi) and Jasmine Triadi (ensemble).
The director of the musical is Bill Buckhurst, with sets designed by David Woodhead, costumes designed by Sarah Mercadé and choreography by Lucy Hind. Musical supervision is from Alfonso Casado Trigo, orchestration by Jack Hopkins, the puppets are designed by Jimmy Grimes, with lighting by James Whiteside and sound design from Chris Whybrow. The musical director is Leigh Thompson, and casting director is Lucy Casson.
