THEATRE ROYAL DRURY LANE
Catherine Street
London, WC2B 5JF
The current Theatre Royal Drury Lane is the fourth theatre to be built on this site officially situated on Catherine Street, but backing onto Drury Lane just to the east of Covent Garden.
It was designed by Benjamin Wyatt and opened in 1812. Its The interior has been redesigned many times since then, but it is one of the largest in the West End with a seating capacity of 2,205.
It has been the setting for appearances by Edmund Kean and Sarah Siddons and more recently is where “My Fair Lady” starring Rex Harrison opened and ran for five years, and where “Miss Saigon” ran for 10 years – the longest performance time at Drury Lane.
In 1922 the auditorium was radically reconstructed by Emblin Walker, Jones & Cromie. During the Second World War it became the headquarters of ENSA, the Entertainments National Service Association, and since that time has been home to a string of large scale musicals.
