JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR TOUR
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, is set to tour the UK once again from September 2023 into 2024
Set against the backdrop of ancient Judea, the musical chronicles the final days of Jesus of Nazareth as seen through the eyes of his disciple, Judas Iscariot. It follows Jesus and his followers as they arrive in Jerusalem, and the conflict that arises between them and the Roman authorities.Judas, torn between his loyalty to Jesus and his fears about the consequences of his actions, ultimately betrays his friend and sets in motion the events that will lead to the crucifixion.
With its powerful performances, stunning choreography, and unforgettable score including iconic songs ‘I Don't Know How to Love Him', ‘Superstar', and ‘Gethsemane', Jesus Christ Superstar is a tour de force of musical storytelling, bringing to life the passion, pain, and sacrifice of one of history's most revered figures.
Ryan O’Donnell (Mandela) will play Pilate, joined by Jad Habchi (Dirty Dancing) as Caiaphas, and Matt Bateman (Pretty Woman) as Annas.
They will join the previously announced lead cast which includes Ian McIntosh (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as Jesus, Shem Omari James (Dreamgirls) as Judas, and Hannah Richardson (The Last Ship) as Mary. Julian Clary will play Herod during the initial 2023 dates and 2024 dates at Bromley in late February, Bristol in mid-March, Southampton in late March and Llandudno and Southend in early July. At each venue Clary will perform from Thursdays to Saturdays.
The ensemble includes Jasmine Jules Andrews, Pàje Campbell, Louise Francis, Francis Foreman, Megan Bryony G, Joshua Hawkins, Darius J James, Cassandra Lee, Stephen Lewis-Johnston, Charlie McCullagh, Jago Mottart, Mia Musakambeva, Timothy Roberts, Luke Street, Timo Tatzber, Jordan Michael Todd, Carla Bertran, Daniel Bowskill, Myla Carman, and Christopher Tendai.
Timothy Sheader (Crazy for You, Into the Woods) directs this new production with choreography by Drew McOnie (King Kong, Strictly Ballroom). Originally staged by London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, this reimagined production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival..
