MOULIN ROUGE! THE MUSICAL

Moulin Rouge opened at the Piccadilly Theatre on January 20th. It is set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France, during the Belle Epoque at the turn of the 20th century. The musical tells the story of Christian, a young English composer, who falls in love with cabaret actress Satine, who is the star of the Moulin Rouge. But she has been promised by the manager to a Duke in return for funding his next production. As the young lovers meet in secret, Satine's wedding day draws closer but she hides a fatal secret from both Christian and the Duke. The musical's score weaves together original songs with popular music, including songs that have been written in the 17 years since the film's premiere including movie favourites like “Come What May” and “Your Song,”. The new songs mash-up cover pop hits from the likes of Sia, Katy Perry, Shakira, T Rex, David Bowie, Beyonce, Madonna, Walk the Moon, Adele, The Police and Rihanna, plus some classical music including Offenbach’s Can Can.

Tanisha Spring (Groundhog Day) is playing Satine (having previously alternated the role) and Dom Simpson (The Book of Mormon) joins plays Christian.

Matt Rixon (Hairspray UK Tour) plays Harold Zidler, Ian Carlyle (Disney’s The Lion King, Porgy and Bess) plays Toulouse-Lautrec with Ben Richards (Emmerdale) as The Duke. Joining them will be Ivan De Freitas (& Juliet) as Santiago and Charlotte Gooch (Dirty Dancing) as Nini, with Anthony Cragg (Starlight Express) who continues with the cast and steps into the role of Baby Doll, Hannah Jay-Allan (Beautiful – The Carole King Musical) as Arabia, Rochelle Sherona (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) who also remains with the cast as Arabia (maternity cover), Bernadette Bangura (My Fair Lady) as La Chocolat, and Angela Marie Hurst (TINA: The Tina Turner Musical) who will play Alternate Satine..

The full cast will also include Oliver Adam-Reynolds, Erin Bell, Emily Bolland, Ross Chisari, James Chisholm, Katie Deacon, Fletcher Dobinson, Serenar Douch, Rola Elliott, Davide Fienauri, Zack Guest, Natorii Illidge, David King-Yombo, Jasmine Leung, Kira McPherson, Melissa Nettleford, Chris Otim, Joshua Robinson, Callum Rose, Ben Rutter, Gavin Ryan, Craig Ryder, Jamie Shields, Catrin Thomas, Matt Trevorrow, Charley Warburton, Sasha Woodward, and Luke Fraser Yates.

Cast change from 14th October: Natalie Kassanga (Dreamgirls, Crazy for You) will play Satine, while Dom Simpson (The Book of Mormon) will continue as Christian. Craig Ryder (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) will take on the role of Harold Zidler, having previously covered the role.

Dex Lee (The Scottsboro Boys) joins the show as Toulouse-Lautrec, joining Ben Richards (Emmerdale) as the Duke, Ivan De Freitas (& Juliet) as Santiago and Charlotte Gooch (Dirty Dancing) as Nini.

Hannah Jay-Allan (Beautiful – The Carole King Musical) and Helen K Wint (Oklahoma!) will alternate the role of Arabia, and Matteo Johnson (Bat Out of Hell) will play Baby Doll, joining Bernadette Bangura (My Fair Lady) as La Chocolat, and Angela Marie Hurst (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical) as Alternate Satine.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is based on the 20th Century Fox Motion Picture by Baz Luhrmann. It will be directed by Alex Timbers (Tony Award®-nominated for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Peter and the Starcatcher) Moulin Rouge! The Musical has a book by John Logan (Tony Award® for Red), choreography by Sonya Tayeh (Lucille Lortel Award and Obie Award for Kung Fu, and Emmy winner), and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
