THE WIZARD OF OZ TOUR

The Leicester Curve production of the Wizard of Oz transferred to The London Palladium for a summer season before embarking on a UK tour starting in December spending the festive season at Liverpool Empire from 13 December 2023 to 7 January 2024 JLS and Strictly star Aston Merrygold will reprise his celebrated role as The Tin Man at select dates across The Wizard of Oz’s UK and Ireland tour. Having recently delighted audiences and critics alike in a magical Christmas season at the Liverpool Empire, Aston rejoins the tour for dates at Hippodrome, Bristol, 2 – 7 April; Palace Theatre, Manchester, 24 Apr – 5 May; Hippodrome Theatre, Birmingham 11 – 16 June and Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff, 23 - 28 July 2024..while the winner  of the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK The Vivienne will play the Wicked Witch of the West at New Theatre Oxford, Mayflower Theatre Southampton, New Theatre Hull, Lyceum Theatre Sheffield, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Bristol Hippodrome, Theatre Royal Nottingham, Theatre Royal Newcastle, Palace Theatre Manchester, Grand Theatre Wolverhampton and the Empire Theatre Sunderland.sharing the role with Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood who will peform at New Victoria Theatre Woking, Grand Opera House Belfast, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Dublin, Birmingham Hippodrome, Glasgow Kings Theatre, His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen, Milton Keynes Theatre and Wales Millenium Centre in Cardiff. Gary Wilmot who starred in the show as the Wizard at The London Palladium, will perform in Canterbury, Edinburgh, Southend, Norwich, Llandudno and Bradford..   (Allan Stewart (Stones in His Pockets) and Alex Bourne (Annie) will play the part at certain dates . 

It has just  been revealed that Jason Manford will reprise his role as the Cowardly Lion in Manchester only. Other principal cast members appearing during the tour include Aviva Tulley (The Book of Mormon) as Dorothy, Benjamin Yates (Jersey Boys) as The Scarecrow, Nic Greenshields (Les Misérables) as The Cowardly Lion and Emily Bull (9 to 5) as Glinda the Good Witch. Abigail Matthews (War Horse) will portray Toto.

The company is completed by David Burrows, Adam Craig, Cole Dunn, Tyler Ephraim, Olivia Kate Holding, Thomas Kalek, Sadie Levett, Kelsie-Rae Marshall, Martin McCarthy, Rose Ouellette, Fanja Parent, Alexandra Regan, Nathan Routledge and Sydney Spencer.

Directed by Nikolai Foster (Billy Elliot The Musical, A Chorus Line) The Wizard of Oz has choreography by Shay Barclay, while the set designer is Colin Richmond, projection designer is Douglas O'Connell, costume and puppet designer is Rachael Canning, lighting designer is Ben Cracknell, sound designer is Adam Fisher, creative consultant is Mark Kaufman, musical director and musical supervisor is George Dyer, magic consultant is Scott Penrose, casting director is Kay Magson CDG, props supervisor is Marcus Hall Props, costume supervisor is Anna Josephs and wigs, hair and makeup designer is Elizabeth Marini.

Join Dorothy and Toto as they are swept up from Kansas and transported over the rainbow to the re-imagined technicolour wonderland of Oz… where nothing is quite as it seems.

On her adventure along the Yellow Brick Road Dorothy meets Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion who help her on her way, but the villainous and frightfully glamorous Wicked Witch has other plans for Dorothy and Toto.

Through the menacing Dark Forest to the bright neon lights of the retro-futuristic Emerald City, Dorothy and her friends search for the powerful and mysterious Wizard of Oz, the only person who can grant their hearts’ desires, and maybe even a way home.

The show features music from the Oscar-winning MGM film, including "Over The Rainbow", "Follow The Yellow Brick Road" and "We're Off To See the Wizard", alongside additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.,
